Description of Event:
Enjoy a guided tour of the North Common Historic District! The Lawrence Common was planned as a passive open space Victorian promenade garden, as an alternative to the urban congestion of the period. In 1848, this 17 acre tree lined plot had many pathways to concept the neighborhoods and to sit and enjoy the open space. Created by Daniel Saunder of the Essex Co. with consultation by Fredrick Law Olmsted, the great landscape architect. The Common is on the National Register and is a local historical district which includes the periphery structures around the Common.
