Description of Event:

Join us for a guided tour of the commercial district -- established in 1845 by the Essex Co. as part of the newly planned city on the Merrimack. The first period structures were enlarged as the city's population went from 30.000 in 1850 to 95,000 in 1910. The third period charged the architecture design of the structures in the 1920's. The district partially suffered from Urban Renewal in the 1960's and opening of suburban malls in the 1970's. The central section of the district was placed on the National Register in the 1980's.
