Updates: http://on.fb.me/1BFikSX

The Untitled Open Mic is held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at Lowell's very own Brew'd Awakening Coffeehaus.

This evening encourages poets, musicians, and all artists to share their work. The hosts and organizers are dedicated to keeping our show and venue a SAFER / BRAVE SPACE. We do not tolerate offensive material that is insensitive to gender, race, sexuality, and a group of people. We love the brave voices in our community and are excited to witness growth, creativity, and accountability.

ABOUT POETRY SLAM:

****

Poetry slam is conventionally defined as the art of competitive performance poetry. Invented in the 1980s by a Chicago construction worker named Marc Smith (so what?), slam is a fast-paced competition where poets have a limited amount of time to impress judges randomly selected from the audience. Performers use all the tricks of storytelling, songwriting, theatre, stand-up comedy, and cold hard poetry to wheedle points out of the judges from 0.0 (terrible) to 10.0 (perfect!).

Poets are competing for a spot in our 16-slot MILL CITY SLAM FINALS 2015, where the top 5 poets in the slam will represent Lowell nationally at the NPS, held this year in New Jersey.

• Competitors need 2 original poems
• Each poem has a 3 minute time limit with a 10.0 sec grace period. If the the poet goes over time, points will be deduction from their final score
• No will be no prop, costume, or musical accompaniment allowed
• Of the scores the poet received from the five judges, the high and low scores are dropped and the middle three are added together, giving the poet a total score of 0-30
• The format is head-to-head, with 4 competitors
• The poet with the higher score in each of the two rounds will go head-to-head in the final round
• The poet with the higher score in the final round wins and gets a spot in our MILL CITY SLAM 2015 FINALS
